Data Collection Basics

This guide explains how to properly orient your Pods and collect data using AutoRecord or Structured Assessments.

Before You Start

  • Pods must be fully charged for first use:
    • Green lights = ready to collect
    • Up to 8 hours of data collection from a full charge
  • Hardware setup must be complete (Travel Dock or Home Dock)

Pod Orientation in Insoles

Correct orientation is critical for accurate data.

Match Left and Right Colours

  • Left Pod & insole: Orange
  • Right Pod & insole: Green
  • Always match Pod colour to insole colour

Insert Pods Correctly

  1. Slide the Pod into the insole.
  2. Ensure the coloured side faces out, matching the insole cover.
  3. Confirm the “Left” or “Right” label is facing up toward you.

Incorrect orientation (upside down or backward) can cause incorrect values in plantiga.io.

If this happens, contact support@plantiga.com — data can be corrected retroactively, but proper setup is strongly recommended.

Data Collection Methods

Method 1: AutoRecord

AutoRecord captures data automatically with no in-app interaction required.

Steps

  1. Remove Pods from the dock
    • Data collection starts automatically
  2. Insert Pods into insoles
  3. Place insoles into shoes
  4. Perform your activity as normal
  5. When finished, return Pods to the dock

Data will upload automatically and Pods will begin charging.

Method 2: Structured Assessments

Use Structured Assessments for specific activities such as walks, runs, jumps, games, or practices. Note that you can do this from a laptop, tablet, or smartphone by logging into plantiga.io.

Steps

  1. In plantiga.io, go to Record (left sidebar)
  2. Select the activity type (e.g., Walk)
  3. Select the athlete profile
  4. Click Start

Check for Warnings

  • Warnings may appear if:
    • Pods are not sufficiently charged
    • Pods are not paired to a profile
  • Resolve all warnings before starting, or data may not be recorded.

Calibration Requirement

  • Stand still for 3 seconds at the start of the assessment
  • If missed, you may also stand still for 3 seconds at the end
  • This standstill is required for calibration

Ending the Assessment

  1. Click Stop when finished

    (Optional) Add contextual notes

    Choose one of the following:

    • Done – finish and save
    • Next – start another assessment
    • Reset – discard the assessment

Uploading Data

  1. Remove Pods from shoes
  2. Place Pods back into the dock
  3. Data uploads automatically and Pods begin charging
